On Wednesday 4th December, the Commonwealth Education Trust and Gordon’s School, Surrey, were delighted to successfully launch another year of our peer teacher learning programme.
Now in its fourth year, the partnership has evolved into a whole-school leadership programme, where those in positions of responsibility from Zambia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas have been invited by CET to join forces with teachers from Gordon’s. These teachers from across the globe have provided key information prior to the launch about their professional development needs, with topics including classroom management, leading staff and increasing literacy. Closely matched by Kelly Hurley, Assistant Headteacher at Gordon’s, in 8 different pairings, the Gordon’s teachers will mentor and facilitate the learning, with partners working together over the coming months to build knowledge and skills on the chosen foci.
Reflecting on the partnership, she said:
Gordon’s are absolutely delighted to be working with the Commonwealth Education Trust and the partner schools for our 4th year! This is a hugely valuable partnership in developing leadership skills, collaborating on pedagogical ideas and building relationships across the globe. 2024 was a great success for the partnership where we saw school leaders and teachers create significant impact in their school development and with the students. The Gordon’s teachers have also learnt the importance of creativity, leadership and become more reflective practitioners. We are excited to see what the 2025 partnership brings!
The partnership pairings begin immediately and together, over the next 6 months, teachers worldwide will develop the skills of both themselves and the teachers in their school by disseminating the information. Each group will work differently and we look forward to seeing how they are progressing!
This partnership with Gordon’s aligns with several of CET’s pillars, including working together to upskill teachers worldwide by providing them with contextualised and personalised teacher professional development. The CET aims to create open and collaborative partnerships that connect teachers, pools knowledge and shares resources.
Our thanks to Kelly for all her hard work to make this partnership a success.
